As we know, freshies teachers are faced with many challenges and obstacles when starting their new posting in rural areas. Culture shock is part of the initial treatment that they have to endure. What types of culture shock that they will face? Being away from family, loved ones, all the special pampering and amenities available such as water, electricity, clean and comfortable homes are some of things that they have to make do without.
Hence, it creates a void in their capacity to function as good and understanding teachers. It might affect their mental and logical thinking whereby they might feel hatred towards the system, the school and worst still – animosity towards the innocent students. Their proficient or professional training might be jeopardizing by their situation. This is also due to stress, tension, worries and frustration. This condition might prolong into further escalating problems that might arise such as financial difficulties, exam tensions for the students, social and relationship conflicts.
In the other hand, the physical aspect of such dilemma is partly blamed on the infrastructure of physical conditions. As most of the rural school lack convenience or amenities such as water, electricity and proper hygienic infra-structure do affect freshies teachers. They might feel de-motivational and felt that their hard works is jeopardize into different categories.
However, in my opinion, the most challenges for the freshies teachers in rural school are the students themselves. They need to select and manage the teaching and learning situation depending on the students’ background. The students themselves comes from the different either thinking or family background. This situation acquires the teacher to create the learning environment which can encourage the students to love the lessons itself. If the freshies teachers can achieve this situation, we can label them as the winner of the match.
For the conclusion, for those teachers who had face with the rural school, they knew the situation. To all freshies teachers, welcome to the club.
